A significant water main break occurred on the ClarkLindsey campus, leading to temporary disruptions in several common areas. While resident apartments were not damaged, the organization is relocating independent living residents as a precaution while repairs are completed. All other areas of campus remain fully operational.

What Happened

A major water line failure was identified on the ClarkLindsey campus early Wednesday morning. Staff acted immediately and coordinated with the Urbana Fire Department to contain the situation and protect residents. Although water entered some shared spaces, no independent living apartments were affected.

As part of the repair process, water service was temporarily shut off. To ensure safety and comfort during this period, ClarkLindsey leadership arranged short‑term accommodations for independent living residents. These options include nearby hotel rooms secured by the organization or staying with family until water service is restored.

President and CEO Deb Reardanz emphasized that the relocation is precautionary and focused on resident well‑being. The organization is working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

The incident did not impact residents in Meadowbrook Health Center, the Green House Homes, or the Meadows Edge villas. All health care, dining, and maintenance services continue uninterrupted.

Why This Matters

For senior living communities, essential utilities like water directly affect safety, comfort, and quality of life. ClarkLindsey’s rapid response demonstrates the importance of strong emergency planning and internal coordination.

This situation also highlights how senior living organizations must balance continuity of care with resident‑centered decision‑making. By relocating only the residents most affected and maintaining stability across the rest of the campus, ClarkLindsey minimized disruption while keeping residents safe.

Broader Context

ClarkLindsey’s model for handling the situation reflects broader best practices: protect residents first, stabilize essential services, and communicate openly throughout the process.

Temporary relocation strategies are commonly used across the aging‑services field to maintain resident safety during utility interruptions. ClarkLindsey’s quick action demonstrates preparedness and commitment to resident well‑being.
